For this freelance project, I designed a promotional flyer for a speaking event featuring Dr. Ira Helfand, a Nobel Peace Prize winner recognized for his advocacy in nuclear disarmament. Throughout the process, the project requirements evolved several times as the organizer, the Bloomington Peace Action Coalition, refined their vision for the event’s presentation. I had to adapt to these changing requests including balancing the inclusion of detailed event information, sponsor acknowledgments, and key visuals. At the same time is was important to ensure the final design remained clean, professional, and visually engaging. With a tight deadline, I worked efficiently to produce a flyer that not only met the organizers’ specifications but also capture the attention of the public, encouraging attendance and interest in Dr. Helfand’s important message.

The flyer design was created using Adobe InDesign, which allowed for precise control over layout, typography, and alignment to maintain a polished, professional look. I incorporated an image of Bloomington as the backdrop to ground the event in our local setting and to help create a sense of community, connection and place. To reinforce the theme of the talk, I integrated subtle imagery of a nuclear bomb. It became important to balance it carefully so it enhanced the message without overpowering the design. These visual cues helped clue the audience into the gravity of the subject matter while maintaining a cohesive and inviting aesthetic. Through InDesign’s grid system and layering tools, I was able to seamlessly combine text, imagery, and hierarchy into a unified composition that captured both the urgency of nuclear disarmament and the anticipation of Dr. Helfand’s visit.
